Bethany College to Celebrate National Bison Day

Bethany College is planning numerous activities for Nov. 1-2 in celebration of National Bison Day.

From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 1 students will be able to decorate bison shaped cookies in the cafeteria and Bethany College mascot Boomer the Bison will be available during meals for pictures and to encourage students, faculty and staff to “vote bison.”

The “vote bison” campaign is part of an initiative sponsored by the International Buffalo Council, the National Bison Association and the Wildlife Conservation Society that aims to see the bison elected as the national mammal. The initiative believes the iconic bison is impeccably qualified to join the bald eagle as a symbol of the United States. As the largest land mammal in the country, the bison helped shape the Great Plains and the lifestyle of the Native Americans who lived there. Bison have been important for centuries to history and culture, and today, they live in all 50 states. Bethany College and its long-standing tradition as a bison community is proud to be a partner of this campaign. More information can be found at www.votebison.org.
