Gault’s Walk-off Single Salvages Split for Varsity

The Bethany College Baseball Team split the annual Fall Marathon double-header, held Sept. 15, with the Bethany College Alumni Team. Freshman Kenny Gault’s 2-out single off of Bethany’s career appearance record-holder Adam Nyswaner '11, in the bottom of the ninth scored sophomore Ryan Meier to net the Varsity team the win in Game 2.

The double-header saw all 45 members of the Bison fall team participate against one of the youngest Alumni teams in recent history, which totaled 23 members. Pacing the Alumni offensive attack was current Bison hitting coach, and Bethany College career hits leader Tyler Dillinger '11, who had two triples, a home run and six RBI. Dillinger’s efforts were supported by a pair of Bethany Hall-of-Famers, as catcher Jim Taylor '95 went 2-4 at the plate with three RBI, and Chris Rice '91 went 2-4 with a triple and an RBI. Additional offensive standouts for the Alumni team were Mike Pegg '11 (two singles), Max Schimmel '02 (single and double) and Eric Fudala '11 (single and an RBI). Adam Martin '06 threw four strong innings to earn the win in game one. The alumnus coming the furthest distance to participate was also the oldest alumnus in attendance, as Theron Noble '82 claimed both honors.
