Educational Leaders Represent Higher Education Institutions at Capitol

Leaders from the West Virginia Higher Education Commission, West Virginia Council for Community and Technical College Education and West Virginia Independent Colleges and Universities Inc. hosted the 2011 annual Higher Education Day at the Legislature February 17 at the state Capitol.

Individuals from a variety of West Virginia colleges and universities presented displays, distributed information and answered questions throughout the morning. Vice President for Institutional Advancement Sven de Jong was accompanied by Assistant to the President Mort Gamble and Renner Visiting Scholar, Assistant Professor of Communications and Chair of the Department of Communications and Media Arts M.E. Yancosek Gamble in representing Bethany College. Governor Earl Ray Tomblin presented event sponsors and participating institutions with a proclamation declaring February 17, 2011, Higher Education Day.

The event was initiated to honor West Virginia’s higher education institutions and to inform potential students, policymakers and the general public about post-secondary educational opportunities.
