Bethany Presents Annual Honors Day Awards

Bethany College awarded many of its exemplary students, faculty and staff with a variety of college-wide and departmental awards on April 18 during its annual Honors Day celebrations. The recipients, selected based on their demonstration of outstanding scholarship and other contributions to the College, were presented with their awards during the Honors Day Convocation held in Commencement Hall in Bethany's historic Old Main.

Eugene Miller ’47 Receives President’s Award from SABEW

The Society of American Business Editors and Writers recently honored Dr. Eugene Miller ’47 with the President’s Award from April 4-7 in Washington, D.C., for his decades of service as a founder of the society.

A special gala was held on April 6 to conclude the annual spring conference and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of SABEW at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel and included a fundraiser, dinner, benefit auction, history moments and a guest speaker.

Miller is the last remaining founder of SABEW.

Mollie Cecere Named Bethany College’s New Director of Enrollment

Mollie Cecere has been named to the position of director of enrollment management at Bethany College, according to Dr. Scott D. Miller, President of the College. Until her appointment at Bethany, she served as associate director of admission and recruitment for Point Park University.
 
“I am impressed by the special role that Bethany College plays in American higher education,” Cecere said. “I am excited about the opportunity to provide leadership for the Center for Enrollment, a department that has been instrumental in the success of the College in recent years.”

Cecere graduated from Saint Vincent College in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication, specializing in public relations and advertising and from Point Park University in 2006 with a master’s degree in business administration.

Gamble Presents Paper at Popular Culture Conference

Dr. Mort Gamble, executive assistant to the president, presented a paper at the joint national conference of the Popular Culture Association and American Culture Association on March 27 in Washington, D.C.

Gamble’s paper, “Where the Circus, and Much More, Once Reigned in the Nation’s Capital,” focused on the historic Uline Arena (at one time renamed the Washington Coliseum) at 3rd and M. Streets, N.E., the site of many events including the first live American concert by The Beatles following their appearance on “The Ed Sullivan Show” in 1964.

Gamble is a circus historian registered with the World Circus Federation (Federation Mondiale du Cirque), a global circus organization under the patronage of H.S.H. Princess Stephanie of Monaco.
