Brownlee ’06 Moderates Title Game Press Conference
2006 Bethany graduate Ben Brownlee served as post-game press conference
moderator for the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl XL, the NCAA DIII football
national championship. Brownlee, who served as PAC Assistant Director in
2006-07, is currently the Associate Commissioner of the NCAA Division
II West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC). The
former Bison swimmer, also currently serves on the NCAA Division II
swimming & diving national committee.

West Virginia Poet Laureate to be Featured at Bethany College Founder’s Day
Bethany College will celebrate 173 years
as a small college of national distinction with its annual Founder’s
Day on March 7. This year’s featured guest speaker will be Bethany
alum and recently appointed West Virginia Poet Laureate Marc Harshman
’73. Festivities will begin at 11 a.m. with the traditional
Founder’s Day Convocation in historic Commencement Hall.
“The celebration of the founding of our great college will only be further enhanced by the presence and words of such a prestigious alumnus,” said Bethany College President Scott D. Miller. “Marc’s professional and personal accomplishments exemplify the model and tradition of Bethany.”
Harshman is a long-time Wheeling resident, where he lives with his wife Cheryl Ryan, who is also a writer, and their daughter Sarah. He earned his bachelor’s degree in literature from Bethany in 1973. He went on to receive a master’s degree in religion from Yale University and a master’s degree in English from the University of Pittsburgh.

Nola ’75 Sets Pennsylvania High School Football Records
The Clairton High School football team, coached by Bethany alum and
Beta Theta Pi member Tom Nola ’75, recently won its fourth-consecutive
state title. The team also set the record for most consecutive wins,
63, in the history of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In addition,
they are the high school with the most consecutive wins in the entire
country.

Bethany to Support Beta Theta Pi with Previdi Memorial Scholarship
In response to the sorrowful loss of Caroline Previdi, daughter of
alumnus Jeff Previdi ’94, during the senseless tragedy at Sandy Hook
Elementary School last Friday, Bethany College is supporting Beta Theta
Pi in the establishment of the Caroline Previdi of Sandy Hook
Elementary Memorial Scholarship. This endowment will ensure Caroline
will be remembered in a positive way by providing annual scholarships
to worthy students who are majoring in Education.
